A.J. Parker Memorial Scholarship

The A.J. Parker Memorial Scholarship honours the memory and scientific achievements of Professor A.J. Parker. Professor Parker was appointed as a foundation professor of Chemistry and Mineral Science at Murdoch University in 1974. Much of his work involved understanding and developing the science of disparate areas of chemistry. His research into non-aqueous hydrometallurgy and storage of electrical energy are today seen as novel and visionary.

The recipient will receive a copy of the following paper which provides an overview of Professor Parker’s career as a chemist and his contribution to chemistry and mineral science: Cole ARH & Watts, DW. Alan James Parker 1933-1982. Historical Records of Australian Science 6(3) pp 399-407.

Eligibility

To apply for this scholarship, you must meet the following criteria: 

  • be intending to enrol, or be enrolled full-time in Bachelor of Science (Physical Science) with Chemistry major or Bachelor of Science (Medical, Molecular, and Forensic Sciences) with Forensic Chemistry major; or
  • be intending to enrol, or be enrolled full-time in Graduate Diploma in Extractive Metallurgy
  • be intending to enrol, or be enrolled full-time in Bachelor of Education (Secondary Teaching) with Physical Sciences Teaching major

Preference given to students undertaking Graduate Diploma in Extractive Metallurgy.

Part-time study with extenuating circumstances may be considered

This scholarship requires you to provide the following documents:

  • completed application form
  • a personal statement of no more than 500 words of why you should be chosen for this scholarship
  • a copy of your most recent academic record

Payment Method

Payment of the award will be made in two equal instalments, directly into your nominated bank account, as follows:

  • $1,500 in week 7 or 8 in the semester you are awarded;
  • $1,500 in week 7 or 8 consecutive second semester.

All payments are subject to your acceptance and ongoing compliance with the terms and conditions of the award.
