School of IT PhD Scholarship

Atthe School of Information Technology (SIT) at Murdoch University, research is a core focus of our work. Our staff are actively engaged in a wide range of IT research areas, collaborating with industry, government, and community partners both within Australia and internationally.

 We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to work on an exciting project at the intersection of causal learning, inference, and deep learning, leveraging Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) and Large Language Models (LLMs). The successful candidate will explore how GNNs can model causal structures and how LLMs can enhance causal reasoning through knowledge integration. The project offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge AI research, publish in top-tier conferences, and collaborate with leading experts in the field. Applicants should have a strong background in machine learning, graph-based methods, and an interest in causal learning. Scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence, research experience, and potential for future contributions to the field.

Eligibility

Applicants must be full time and meet the admission requirements of the required HDR degree to be eligible (first or upper second-class Honours degree, Masters degree by research, or equivalent).

The successful candidate must be able to commence no later than September 2025.

  2. Current CV: Include a list of research publications (if any) and highlight all current and past research experience/project (if any).
  3. Academic Transcripts: Provide official transcripts from your previous education.
  4. Language Proficiency Results: Submit any language proficiency test results (if applicable).
  5. Research Proposal: Submit a brief research proposal outlining the focus and direction of your potential research.
  6. Referees: Provide contact details for two referees who can speak to your academic and research potential.
