There's no place like home, but what if home could be somewhere else? A semester abroad could take you anywhere - even the Arctic circle! So glad I made the leap and applied for the program that showed me the world.

Check your eligibility

You can apply for exchange from your second semester at Murdoch.

To go on exchange you need to have completed one year (24 credit points) of full-time study in your current course. Advanced standing can be taken into account on a case-by-case basis – a previous Academic Transcript may be requested.

You may be eligible for exchange if:

  • you are a Murdoch University (Australia) student (domestic or international)
  • you have passed all classes the semester before you go on Exchange
  • you have a GPA of 2.0 (credit average) – please note that many of our partner universities will only accept a GPA of 2.5 or above. You find your GPA in MyInfo under Course Details > Course & Unit Details > Course Progress Summary
  • you will be a good ambassador for Murdoch University and WA.
Students in Chiropractic, Psychology and Education are advised to speak to their academic chair to check accreditation requirements and course structure.

Unfortunately most of our Exchange Partner universities only accept undergraduate students.

In addition, it can be difficult to find suitable units abroad, that you can get credit for. However, going on Exchange during a Master's degree is possible, but has its limitations. Contact us to find out more.

The following students are not eligible to apply for Exchange:

  • Students in Veterinary Science and Nursing (due to the accreditation requirements of their course)
  • Australia Award Students
  • Open Universities Australia-enrolled students
  • Murdoch Dubai and Singapore students

10 steps to get you abroad

You can find your GPA via MyInfo.

Email studyabroad@murdoch.edu.au to find a time to chat to the International Relations and Programs team about your options. You can also drop-in to Student Central (Building 350) for a chat on Thursdays between 12:30pm and 2pm.

Choose two universities that offer your course. It us the student's responsibility to find units that will suit your degree. Remember, all study undertaken on exchange must be for credit towards your Murdoch degree. Please communicate with your Academic Chair (AC) to confirm units.

Click the red "Apply now" button at the top of the page to access the application for the Murdoch University Exchange Program.

After the application deadline passes, you will be selected for one of your preferred universities and nominated by us. You will then be contacted by the host university with instructions for admission.

Once accepted, it is compulsory to book your travel via the Murdoch University Travel Management Platform (TMP).

Meet with your Academic Chair (AC) to discuss and confirm the units you will take while on exchange. Your AC will sign your Credit Transfer Form.

Accept/confirm your on-campus accommodation and travel plans.

Attend the compulsory pre-departure session. Apply for your visa (if required). Organise your OS-Help loan (if applicable). Request your Centrelink letter (if applicable).
Ensure you pack your passport and copies of your important documents. Throw a farewell party and head off for a semester/year of a lifetime!
