Murdoch University created its first esports program in 2020 becoming a leading Australian university investing in the renaissance of gaming. It is the only WA University with a dedicated gaming facility used for a range of opportunities from casual gaming to researching the next breakthrough study in the gaming industry.

Events in eports and gaming
Providing a well-rounded experience in esports and gaming is at the core at what we aim to provide. From tournaments, high school programs, to industry panel events there is sure to be something for everyone.
Competitive esport teams
Murdoch University has teams that compete nationally in Counter Strike 2, League of Legends, Marvel Rivals, Rainbow 6 Seige, Rocket League and Valorant. Teams train under the guidance of an industry professional and have opportunity to compete in tournaments such as AEL, QUT Intervarsity, and UniSports Nationals.
Team try outs for 2025 will be held throughout the first two weeks of Semester Two for all the games listed above. Ready to play? Register your interest by completing the online sign-up form. Only Murdoch University students are eligible to be selected on the teams.
Esports Gaming Hub
Esports Gaming Hub features:
- 12 gaming desktops
- VOD Review TV
- Student free time - free access for Murdoch Students between 8am – 4pm for up to two hours.
Outside of these hours, or if you are not a Murdoch student playtime can be purchased by the hour. Visit Murdoch Active reception to purchase time and get signed-up with your free ggLeap account to access the stations. Purchased time will never expire until used. Users will need to own the games they wish to play on their relevant game library platform such as Steam or Epic Games.

Non-peak is between 8am-4pm during the week, peak is after 4pm during the week or weekend.
Memberships
If you find yourself becoming a regular, consider our weekly membership for unlimited playtime—a more cost-effective option than one-time payments. Memberships are flexible with no lock-in terms and can be cancelled anytime with two weeks' notice.

Group bookings and availability
The Esports Gaming Hub is a shared space designed for gaming, events, and training activities. At times, the university may reserve the hub in its entirety for exclusive use. Bookings are not essential for individuals however we encourage users to check availability via our online booking system or by checking the Bookings channel in the Murdoch Active Discord
From Console to Kick Off : The Ultimate Party Experience
Book your next party at Murdoch Active - available every Saturday & Sunday. Perfect for kids aged 6-10, your party experience will include 2 hours of non-stop action packed fun where your guests can play games such as Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Sonic & More mixed with shooting some hoops or scoring some goals on our outdoor courts. Nintendo Switches
Students can opt to borrow a Nintendo switch between 8am – 4pm for use on our foyer TV through a simple swap system with your student card. We can provide game cube controllers for up-to four players at a time.

Under 15s
Participants under the age of 15 will have to fill out and provide a parental consent form prior to playing in the Gaming Hub. Parents/Guardians will also have to supervise under-aged users while playing.

Murdoch Esports and Gaming Club
The club roughly 300 members and over 1000 members on the club Discord. If you are looking for a place to call home while at Murdoch, there is no better club for gamers. Events that the club runs include but is not limited to 24-hour LAN parties, rumbles, and weekly in-person meet-ups.
